Ubuntu images w Desktop + Utilities. - Vidiot - 07-30-2016

I can't help but notice that Debian images get updated with desktop of choice and utility packages, while it seems Ubuntu users install their own. I will admit a preference for Ubuntu (I suspect there are some firmware/ drivers that play better with my USB equipment), and while I can add my own desktop and Gparted and all that, It would certainly be handy to have all of that pre-installed...

This one has the mate desktop. I went with it after struggling with the non-desktop image. For whatever reason, I just could not get it installed and working. I'm not a linux power-user by any means, so it may be lacking other features you want.

I installed the ubuntu image out of curiousity, to compare with Debian-Mate. At this point, Debian-Mate remains my go-to linux environment.

The image is from 5/30, while the latest Debian-Mate is from July 18th, and there is a Vanilla Ubutnu (No Desktop /Utilities) from 7/16.

I strongly recommend the lennyraposo debian mate image for gnu+linux.

As far as I know, its the the only one I know of with desktop as part of the image. I absolutely see your point, hopefully others more knowledgeable on the development side can point you towards a workable solution. I would assume TLLim can provide insight as to any update plans for that specific wiki image.

Hi,

Yes, I found the same thing. However, there is a script in the Ubuntu image to download Mate. It takes a while, but it definitely works. I used the images from here:

Looks like there is Error 500 - Internal Server Error.

I hope this will be fixed soon

The Debian image maintained by Lenny, owner of pine64.pro, and he post more Debian images than Pine64 wiki page.

I just check and his site now already function properly.
