External storage problem for pine64 - Dani6102 - 07-26-2023 Hi there! I have recently bought a pine64 and i am using it as a plex server with USB-stick as extra drive to not fill the sd card, unfortunately when i tried to connect a 1tb 2,5 HDD from seagate it wasn't reading it's content, from searching online i found out that the usb2.0 do not provide enough power, and i was now wondering if they could support an SSD or if i need to buy an usb hub. do you have any suggestion about my problem? thanks! RE: External storage problem for pine64 - tophneal - 07-26-2023 a 2.5" SSD should only draw about 5v, which is the max USB2 can supply, but if you're able you could grab an nvme+usb case/adapter and it would likely only be pulling about 3.3v, with some wiggle room for usage peaks. either form of SSD or a powered usb hub should work for your use case. RE: External storage problem for pine64 - tophneal - 07-26-2023 i use the ElecGear NV-2242A nvme enclosure on the daily. it's solidly built and the magnetic cap is extremely convenient. i don't recall which nvme i have in it, but i think it's either a 2242 Sabrent 512GB Rocket or a 2242 MyDigitalSSD Super boot 2. as far as a hub, any that handles usb2 and has a wall wart for additional power should work just fine. RE: External storage problem for pine64 - gulshan212 - 08-22-2023 Well, I will recommend you to choose the one of the best option i.e. consideration of SSD which is extremely fast and less power consuming.
