Udating the firm,ware? Potential problems? - KNERD - 06-10-2023

So I am reading over on UBPorts about updating the firmware which results in a different boot loader. Going from Uboot to Tow-boot

Is this a problem for any other distros out there for the PinePhone?

The original PinePhone (unlike the PinePhone Pro) does not have an SPI flash dedicated for booting (the text in your link that claims you should install the Tow-Boot to the SPI on the PinePhone is wrong, the accompanying screenshot is from a PinePhone Pro), so Tow-Boot is installed to the eMMC or to a microSD card. Which means that if you install a distro which comes with its own bootloader (usually its own build of u-boot) the common way (by overwriting the eMMC or microSD card contents with the distro image), you will be overwriting Tow-Boot with that distro's bootloader anyway. So it should not matter at all. (And besides, those distros normally boot just fine with Tow-Boot too.)

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
