PineTab 2 Dead Screen - Kramey - 06-09-2023

I received my PineTab 2 a few days ago and tried to boot it up. Nothing on the screen and no sound but I did see the backlight on the keyboard come on a few seconds after turning on power. Tried booting from freshly burned SD card with the same results.

Finally connected the PineTab to my laptop using the debug adapter it came with and was able to see that it actually had booted up. I could log in through a terminal app and poke around the file system. But the screen stayed dark and there was no sound.

I've submitted a ticket on the problem but it's been three days and no response.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Were you able to resolve them?

Thanks.

Ken Ramey

Hi Ken,

I would try the directions on the wiki: https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PineTab2

I did that already. I've exhausted every tip on the site.

When the tablet is out of the case and you turn it on, what exactly happens?

Nothing obvious. There are no sounds, no lights, nothing on the display. But, if I connect the debug adapter, I am able to login to the device, see the file system, etc.

It's been seven days since I submitted my ticket and have received no information from Pine. Their site says tickets are responded to within 48 hours. Is this typical response from them? I've been very happy with my Pinebook Pro but am frustrated that my PineTab 2 is a paperweight and no one has responded to my ticket at this point.

The screen is likely defect, according to your description. The units are tested in the factory but there was one other unit where the screen was defective during and/or after shipping I know of, so it occasionally happens that there is a bad apple.

Regarding your ticket it can take some time for the Pine Store support to respond, they often don't respond that fast. And I think part of the Store team are currently on vacation until the 20th. I would give it a couple of days. Please don't worry about the device or the money, Pine Store can usually resolve such cases, even if it is not right away. If there is no reply after a week I would recommend joining the community chat and mentioning the ticket number to an admin, they can usually mediate.

@fxc

Thank you for the information. It's been worrying to receive absolutely no response to this issue. I feel better about it after reading your response. As I mentioned before, I have a Pinebook Pro and am very happy with it. So, like you, I have faith that eventually this will be resolved.

My ticket number is 16383 for this particular problem.

I don’t work for Pine64 & that’s why I delayed responding to you. With my last problem they corrected it; I’m still here buying & testing more devices. :-)
