star64 bootable images, u-boot, sbi, forum? - hexdump - 04-20-2023

now that the star64 can be ordered from time to time: are there any bootable linux images around somewhere? are there any u-boot and sbi trees around somewhere? to me it looks like the software support state currently is the same as for the pinetab v: you basically buy a brick as there is no software around for it at all - at least i was not able to find anything or any information anywhere. the only thing i was able to find was the icenowy star64 kernel tree with the last commit from january of this year. and while i'm at the star64: how about an own forum section for it now that it is out?

a lot of thanks in advance and best wishes - hexdump

They are now in the experimental stage. The system can be updated from this developer's repository by running apt update. The username and password are root and pine64, respectively. Looks like there's a gigantic ass pcie socket instead of a m.2 socket.

Hey hexdump,
I totally get your frustration with the software situation for the Star64. It does seem like there’s not much out there right now. I’ve been looking for bootable Linux images and any U-Boot or SBI trees myself, but it feels like we’re in the same boat as with the PineTab V—lots of potential but not much support yet.
I saw the icenowy Star64 kernel tree too, but it’s disappointing that it hasn’t been updated since January. I agree that having a dedicated forum section for the Star64 would be really helpful, especially as more people start to get their hands on it.
If I come across any useful resources or updates, I’ll be sure to share. Let’s keep each other posted on any progress we find!
Best wishes!

At this point, they are in the experimental phase. Apt update can be used to update the system from this developer's repository. Pine64 is the password, while root is the username. Instead of an M.2 socket, it appears to be a huge ass pcie socket.
