Mobian is broken at the moment! - mburns - 08-22-2022

An apt-get dist-upgrade command as of last night and today, August 22, removes the setup app and does not allow reinistallation. The pinephonepro-tweaks package is removed by the dist-upgrade in favor of mobile-tweaks, and does not allow recovery.

I need to copy back the image that I saved last night by way of the USB mode of Tow-boot.

The dist-upgrade command still removes the settings app as of this morning. I might check back later on the state of Mobian.

It is also broken for me. Unfortunately I don't have a backup to revert to. Maybe I should start taking some...

At least part of the issue seems to be that the mobian repo's version of gnome-control-center depends on libgnome-bg-4-1 and other packages, but the mobian repo does not supply these packages, and they have been removed from debian bookworm in favor of libgnome-bg-4-2 (and etc). Unsure if this is the underlying cause or just a symptom.

Compare http://repo.mobian.org/pool/main/g/gnome-control-center/gnome-control-center_42.3-2mobian1_arm64.deb (eg. to show dependencies and note that libgnome-bg-4-1 is there, download the deb and and run dpkg-deb -I gnome-control-center_42.3-2mobian1_arm64.deb ) vs https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=libgnome-bg&searchon=names&suite=testing&section=all (and note it only has libgnome-bg-4-2).

I've ran apt upgrade and there are 14 packages kept back, that seems to be the problem.

Yes, settings is gone for me too.
But then Mobian has had a few odd issue. When I go to updates it usually comes up with "Download and Install," but when you click on it, it says there is nothing there. Then you have to exit the Software app and go back in and update. Then, no matter what the update is, it wants a reboot and that means waiting and holding down the down volume button at the right moment, twice. Then when I go in to check updates it tells me that there haven't been any for two months.

And if I don't manage the daily update every day, I have to go to the console and clear out updates and app updates before it will update.

Don't get me wrong, I still love my Mobian, but the update process is far from clean.

I used Aptitude to workaround the issue by ignoring the missing version and install gnome-control-center anyways. It looks like it is working and functioning fine. I have not run into any issues with this workaround.
