Pinebook Pro Dock - cannot connect to monitor - Dominik - 05-26-2022

...this week I received my pinebook pro dock. It is connected to a usb-c power supply. Unfortunately, it does not connect to my monitor. Neither via HDMI nor via usb-c. Monitor says: no signal...Is thereĀ  some additional Software needed? (I us an EIZO FlexScan EV2480 monitor).

Just to throw out some random ideas to try:
  • Turn the cable between dock and PBP 180 degrees
  • Try a different HDMI cable
  • Try a different laptop?

It could be your dock is broken from new however thinking up and trying out different tests could be helpful.

What other functions on the dock actually seem to work?

What O/S and version is on the PBP?

What does the message log say? Does it mention the monitor?

If the message log shows the monitor is connected then have you tried manual commands to enable video to the monitor?

I'm on "5.17.5-4-MANJARO-ARM" (latest update). Tried to turn the cable, as well as the command recommended in the wiki. But, no effect on the connection. Manual commands I tried: "fn F7", also without effect. Will try your other advices (different cable, laptop and other functions) and document the results here.

To be clear what I would expect at the minimum when the dock is plugged into the PBP there would be some messages added on to the log describing which devices in the dock had just been found. This is where to begin so figure out the commands to read the log, query what devices on the system etc. If messages show up then that's good - when the HDMI cable is plugged in, more messages are added to the log. Going via the log and seeing these messages is the diagnostic you need.

The protocol I determine is (with pinephone pro)
- Disconnect all usbc (integrated cable, pd charging cable)
- Reboot your pineX
- Connect your pineX in the rigth way.
- Wait for screen sharing detection
- connect the power to the PD usbc dock port.

for me it is sharing screen but not negociating pinephone Amps more than 500mA
running echo 2000000 | sudo tee /sys/class/power_supply/rk818-usb/input_current_limit permits me to chage the phone and share screen at the same time
