Can you install F-droid on a pinephone to get open source apps?

F-Droid is an Android app, so that won't work natively. There are some approaches such as Waydroid and Anbox to run Android and its apps in containers, which will make some apps work to some degree. However it will be severely limited and especially on the Pro the hardware acceleration under Waydroid is currently not working due to a bug.

The Anbox woorking image found in the Mobian wiki comes with f-droid included, it was very unstable as of about 6 months ago, many apps wouldnt load and even the lineageOS updates barely worked.  It was a good proof of concept but not really useful, it also burned battery amp/hours at a rapid rate.  Even on a deskop machine anbox is not super stable though.
