Waydroid on Manjaro 16 - how to launch - stozi - 10-07-2021

I'm following these guides:

https://fossingularity.wordpress.com/2021/09/24/a-guide-to-installing-waydroid-on-manjaro-phosh-beta-15/
and
https://waydro.id/ (scroll down)

so on the first guide, "sudo waydroid-start" says command doesn't exist,

but going to the second guide, "sudo waydroid init" seems to work, but "sudo waydroid container start" and "waydroid session start" seem to get stuck, and subsequently, "waydroid app install whatever.apk" doesn't work either.

was editing boot.txt perhaps an outdated step? Any tips?

iirc Waydroid should have a shortcut in the app drawer now. Does it not show or work to start it?

if the version in the manjaro repos is kept up to date with danctnix's then the instructions likely are outdated. here's the most recent install instructions i've seen: https://fosstodon.org/@xaviers/106936888809418637

That's how I installed mine, but still no launch from the icon.
To launch I have to do:
systemctl start waydroid-container --now
sudo waydroid --details-to-stdout container start &       #*note sudo*
waydroid --details-to-stdout session start  &                 # *note no sudo*

Then:
waydroid --details-to-stdout show-full-ui

to see the android gui.  Also if the keyboard is displayed on the screen (pretty likely in a terminal) the waydroid session only fills part of the screen, if you have a full screen app open then it should come up the right size.
