Pine phone caught on fire after inserting SDcard - majikbear - 09-29-2021

I have not used my Pinephone much since there haven't been really any useable daily driver OS available.

Today I decided to use an SDcard to try out some Linux distro images.

Unfortunately after I inserted an SDcard and powered on the device, first the area around the SDcard slot got very hot and began to melt, then the device burst into flames on my desk.

Has this happened to anyone else?

@majikbear Please provide as much information as you can. If this happened as you say then it's quite a serious failure!

Please post detailed pictures, was the fire in the SD card, the board, or the battery?
Are we talking smoke, slow smoky flames, or jetting flames?
Also describe the smell in the room, was it a plastic smell, BTW DO NOT smell the phone now as there is toxic stuff involved in electronic manufacture.

Could be the SD cards fault. These thing get so hot they can crack from the heat. I can imagine that a faulty one could start a fire.

You're taking burning an SD card to a whole other level haha.

Sounds like you were using a phone on top of a BBQ grill or something (either that, or you can grill some meat on your phone).

Jokes aside, did you take any photos or videos of this happening?
Sounds too hard to believe to be true.
