Speaker improvement/phase ii - mamboman777 - 08-29-2021 I'm getting ready to try to further improve the sound on my pinebook pro. I drilled holes in the keyboard and flipped the speakers around so that they fire upwards. You can see that here: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=14530 This really helped. Next phase, I'm going to dremel out the rest of the hole to the size of the speaker so that the speakers can mount flush with the top of the palm rest. I'm going to glue on a speaker grill mesh on top of the palm rest. My question is. Are the felt spots on the back of the speakers for sound to travel through? I purchased some passive baffles that are roughly the same size as the speaker. My plan is to 3d print a resonance chamber and use the baffles to point down where the original speakers were. I realized that the speakers may not even move air on the back side, which would make this idea useless. Any comments or suggestions appreciated! Here are the passive membranes I found. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08C7DY22K?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title RE: Speaker improvement/phase ii - KC9UDX - 08-29-2021 You might be better off just finding better speakers first before you go through the trouble of modifying the case specifically to the ones you have. Hadn't considered that. I wishi could order an extra pine brand speaker so that I have a backup on case this goes bad. RE: Speaker improvement/phase ii - KC9UDX - 08-29-2021 I'm the wrong person unfortunately, to suggest a suitable part. But an Jameco, Digikey, Newark, Newegg, Amazon, might be places that you can get a speaker that works better than the ones that came with the PBP, and still fits in the case. It would be a shame to find suitable better speakers *after* custom modifying the case to fit the original speakers. I'm still going forward with this. Check out the video I posted. I already cut holes in the keyboard so that my speakers could fire upwards. Now I'm taking about adding resonance chambers to hopefully chance frequency response of the speakers to get a more balanced sound. RE: Speaker improvement/phase ii - mamboman777 - 09-06-2021 I've made a discovery....I had plans for baffles and whatnot, but actually, I think I may be able to get good sound from the speakers if I mount them flush with the palm rest and let the case do the resonating. I think it's a oversight in development to mount the speakers flush with the palm rest. A significant amount of mid/lower frequencies appear to be coming from the vents on the bottom of the speaker. Check out this video: RE: Speaker improvement/phase ii - mamboman777 - 09-06-2021 All done, for now. I'll let you know when I get more finished. I just taped the speaker grille on for now until I decide what shape I want. It's hard to cut circle shapes in this material. Maybe I'll Dremel them, maybe I'll just glue rectangles. I'm probably going to build something into the case. I'm not sure whether It'll include a passive baffle or not. I think I need something to ensure the speakers stay pressed up against the palmrest grille. Here's a video: |
