Black Screen on PinePhone with Manjaro - Juron - 05-26-2021

Hi forum.

I just received a new PINE64 Beta. Manjaro pre-installed. After a little playing, like installing ssh, x2goserver, upgrading and rebooting, the screen turned black. The K-logo can be seen. And sometimes the screen lights up and then turn black again. I rebooted several times. No change. I can SSH into it. What do I have to do to solve this?

Thanks in advance,
J.

Did you try doing a dry reboot? Pull out the battery and let it sit for a few seconds, and then plug it back in and start it. Could also just have been a bad software update, so another thing you could try doing is flashing a SD card with another distro (such as postmarketOS stable) and booting that up.

Removing battery an let ii sit for a while did not work. Does that mean I have to flash a SD Card with a distro to re-flash the eMMC?

If you are running Manjaro Plasma Mobile there is a bug whereby screen is black upon reboot after updates, see

Hope that helps if that's the problem.

@dcinoz thank you. That worked for me.

Glad that worked. I reported the bug around 20210224 as that was the update for me that 'triggered' it. Presumably none of the devs noticed it or were busy doing more important things, but it's a pretty nasty bug if you have wifi off and end up being stuck with a black screen (happened to stupid me, thought it had been fixed lol).

Someone else confirmed they had the same thing happen so perhaps that will help. I wonder what triggers the problem, weird that the 'boot' screen brightness would be reset to a zero / low level after updates. I'm sure it will be fixed at some stage!

Make sure you have ssh enabled and keep wifi on when updating and rebooting Wink
