Pinephone gamers case (like ODROID-GO) - mitcoes - 05-11-2021

ODROID-GO is a - much worse in specs - linux gaming device like a Nintendo Switch, it started at 80$ and now in Europe costs 120 or more.

There is demand for this kind of devices.

A Pinephone gamer edition, with the same hardware, but with a case with game pad,   and some retroarch configuration in the OS, would be a bestseller.

And if it is when the Pinephone 2 will arrive (with WiFi6, 5G, and NFC, I expect) even more

Wifi6 and 5g should not be expected anytime soon, as the hardware components to support those would be expensive and use closed source drivers. There will be no pinephone 2 for several more years, not until the current device has had all it's kinks ironed out.

As far as gaming goes, software support will happen in due time, but no gamepad case will be designed. They said that is better left to 3rd parties that know their field, like the Gamesir X2 or the Razer Kishi.

As of right now, the only game I can kind of play with a controller is supertux. Retroarch breaks itself within a minute if launching the app. Gaming support is not there yet.
So in short, it's better to get the Odroid Go for gaming. It's probably even more powerful, for way cheaper than the pinephone+controller.
