Best Place To Learn PostmarketOS - mw4jet - 03-06-2021

I flashed PostmarketOS and found out it was bare bones, so I tried to add apps and such but it isn't easy for someone that has no clue about how
to navigate in apk. I did get a couple installed....

Where can I go to get a tutorial or something? The phone seems to be solid, phone quality sounds a whole lot better than Mobian and it works....
Messaging works also, I need to get my contacts imported, a couple of apps for music and podcasts is all. I managed to get Gpodder and lollypop installed but
it didn't work....

Any help would be appreciated.

You are going to find PostMarket OS is much more beta then a finished product like Mobian. Were you running the latest updates in Mobian?

Still run the updates from the terminal. There were more just rolled out.

Code:
sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade
Code:
sudo apt autoremove
Run the code at least every other day. With the release of the Mobian CE edition development is rapid. Updates are rolling out rapidly.

Read the Wiki to tweak. https://wiki.mobian-project.org/doku.php?id=tweaks

Follow the blog upgrade instructions. https://blog.mobian-project.org/posts/2021/02/09/pam_issue/

Add flatpak and install Chromium. It's much faster and supports Web Apps.

Mobian is the most stable and evolved OS for the PinePhone at the moment. Arch is right behind But lacks a few things and isn't as stable in convergence docked, followed by Manjaro Phosh. Plasma anything is a mess.

If I helped you rate me a +1 please? It makes up for the lousy pay they pay me here in the forum. Big Grin

RE: Best Place To Learn PostmarketOS - Rainer - 05-26-2021

thanks for giving me some insight into overwhelming amount of o/s's available for the pinephone! it is hard for me to understand who exactly is doing what. i started out with plasma-mobile pre installed and after a couple of weeks was running into way too many issues. i recently installed phosh to a sd card and like it much better. i'm still working on sound quality issues when using the phone though. based on what you've said, i may try mobian soon. i only need basic functionality but it has to be reliable especially for the modem, chat, and the phone. you get you +1.

For a brief guide to pmOS's differences:

FWIW I had great results with Arch and Mobian.
