nordvpn and web browser - daniel - 02-15-2021 I gave it a try installing nordvpn on pinephone. The installation went smoothly. I connected to VPN and said was connected to another country. I whitelisted port 22 to ssh However, when I tried to use Firefox there is no connexion I wonder if anyone has tried and can help thanks RE: nordvpn and web browser - daniel - 02-17-2021 (02-15-2021, 11:12 PM)daniel Wrote: I gave it a try installing nordvpn on pinephone.I am the only one using VPN on the pinephone? cool... well if it just worked... RE: nordvpn and web browser - wibble - 02-17-2021 Only one using nordvpn maybe - other VPNs are available: https://wiki.mobian-project.org/doku.php?id=protonvpn-gui https://wiki.mobian-project.org/doku.php?id=howto:security https://wiki.mobian-project.org/doku.php?id=networking#vpn RE: nordvpn and web browser - C0ffeeFreak - 02-17-2021 Don't run the VPN on your phone just run it on your browser. Just add the extension. I am doing the same thing only in the Chromium browser. It works pretty well. Just in case someone sees anything that could help, this is the connection status. It looks it connects, but then Firefox do not find any page. I am connecting from US to Spain: Code: mobian@mobian:~$ nordvpn status RE: nordvpn and web browser - wibble - 02-20-2021 I've not tried them on the PinePhone - just trusting those that posted instructions. I've never had much trouble with OpenVPN or Wireguard on other linux boxes, but that may reflect time spend messing with low level stuff on networks in general. Have you checked the basics like DNS are working? When I checked the status, it looked good, but trying to load web pages didn't work until I disconnected from the VPN. This is via Wi-Fi, without a SIM card inserted. RE: nordvpn and web browser - theD0ctor - 03-04-2021 In terminal, can you try pinging the web? ping 8.8.8.8 and then ping google ping www.google.com To rule out DNS resolver issues I've ran private internet access vpn with wireguard tunneling on mobian just fine (all of the phones network traffic was behind it, browsing worked just fine). So this should work without any hiccups. If it's just webpages though, sounds like DNS RE: nordvpn and web browser - mini-DIN - 03-08-2021 I found NordVPN's instructions for setting up OpenVPN here: https://support.nordvpn.com/Connectivity/Linux/1047409422/How-can-I-connect-to-NordVPN-using-Linux-Terminal.htm I followed those instructions and left the terminal running while I opened a browser to check that my IP address matched the server I chose. It worked! Just make sure you look up your info on their dashboard, since the username and password it wants aren't the ones you chose when you created the NordVPN account. It needs the DNS servers set to the nordvpn nameservers and ipv6 set to off. To set ipv6 to off I followed these instructions: https://support.nordvpn.com/Connectivity/Linux/1047409212/How-to-disable-IPv6-on-Linux.htm I updated the DNS nameservers using the information here:https://www.tecmint.com/set-permanent-dns-nameservers-in-ubuntu-debian/ Using the information from here: https://support.nordvpn.com/Connectivity/Linux/1134945702/Change-your-DNS-servers-on-Linux.htm Hope this helps |
