Updated board, still have USB C charging problem - xonq - 01-29-2021

I cannot get my pinephone to charge well unless it's off. It was originally a UBports CE, but I updated to the increased RAM board using the discount provided.

Using an appropriately spec'ed charger, it drops to like 0.5 Amps when turned on. No difference between this board and the old. Kind of disappointing because this was advertised as the fix and I shelled out another $70 for it

Did you flash the Anx firmware? It's in the wiki

I had a lot of trouble with the USB-C connector which I eventually discovered was making/breaking charge connection. The replacement USB-C board appears very weak also.

If "an appropriately spec'ed charger" means one using Power Delivery you probably need both the ANX firmware as mentioned above, and an appropriately up to date kernel, which AFAIK not all the distros have. I think Megous has the most up to date details:

it's an ipad charger A1401, perhaps I'm wrong about PD on this. 5.3 V at 2.4 Amps. Charge at 0.5 Amps. Using Manjaro Phosh B5

Is it also 0.5 A if you plug it in after the phone is on?

it is 0.5A only when on, I believe fine off.

so my dock receives power from my monitor, which is on 5V 4A power supply. i believe the dock has PD because im able to charge at 3A. so it appears I was wrong about power supply. my understanding is the correct V is important, but the phone can regulate the amperage, so 4A shouldnt be a problem, correct? (phone says drawing 3A)

next q, though, i hear a persistent buzzing sound when connected to the dock. this concerns me as Im wondering why it only does this when fast charging. also there's a bunch of weird activity on the phone when this happens but i dont think its possible to deconvolute it from convergence causing a bunch of problems.
