Good Cable? - foobarney - 01-28-2021

Does anyone know a source for a reasonably-priced USB-C cable with a silicone jacket? It would be nice to have a power cable the iron can't melt.

The TS80 kit evidently includes a nice one, but it can't be ordered separately (AFAIK) and is an A-to-C cable, and I'd want C-to-C to use PD.

For that matter, does anyone make a silicone barrel-style power cable? That would be easy enough to adapt, I'd think .

EDIT: This looks promising--a 2m silicone USB C-to-C cable for under $5 shipped on Aliexpress. Granted, it could be absolute crap, and I'll probably be vaccinated before it shows up, but hey ... promising.

I bought the cable for the TS80 (quickcharge) TS80p (usb pd):
TS80p https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001316262433.html
TS80 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32922417557.html

Not the cheapest option if you already have the charger though.

Is this above really silicone though, I suspect this and the 'silicone' cables on ebay are actually PU which wile soft and flexible will NOT stand up to even a quick touch from a hot soldering iron.  Finding REAL no-name silicone multimeter probes and I guess USB cables off of these Chinese sites has been difficult for me, in my experience all have been polyurethane.

I am interested in this too, I can't seem to easily find a soft silicon usb-c cable, any suggestions? (if Europe based it would be great)

I have bought several so call silicone USB-C cables and all fail badly when come to heat test. Pine Store is exploring with cable manufacturer whether able to build a real silicone USB-C cable.

I know it is outside the scope of Pine64's interests probably but if you could find a reliable supplier for USB-C cables would Pine64 also have a logical non-encumbering way to help us find low cost silicone O-scope, multimeter, leads; especially if they even can/do exist silicone Dupont ribbons or lines for stuff like a logic analyzer, from the same supplier as the USB-C cable?.  I have injured those a number of times over the years with a soldering iron.
Is Pine64 looking to source silicone USB-C to USB-C and/or USB-A to USB-C?
Is silicone cable with a nomex braided jacket something anyone else would want?

I'm actually wondering if the Anker ones I bought are actually temperature resistant. the price is kinda ridiculous, nearly as much as the pinecil, but *shrugs*

Get a silicone cable for cheap from Pine64 and be sure it is safe to solder with.
