PinePhone WIFI: PineCone user installable? - PineUser-1337331 - 01-20-2021 Hey folks, I hope you are all healthy and well. Since the wifi on the pinephone requires non-free drivers (realtek iirc), I obviously would rather wait for the version with the pinecone included. But since I am impatient and want to start developing apps (and get rid of my android), I am wondering: can I, once it has reached usability, change the wifi card? I couldn't find out how the wifi card is connected to the mainboard. I don't have any skill in soldering, so that's out of the question. Thank you all for your time! 1337331 RE: PinePhone WIFI: PineCone user installable? - barray - 01-21-2021 @PineUser-1337331 I suspect the PineCone is at least 6 months away fro being usable. People can somewhat put up with a flakey cell modem, flakey camera, etc. But not being able to use the internet at all I think would push most people too far, hence I guess it would need to be mature first. Meaning, if I can swap one WiFi card (rt) for the other (pinecone). Because until then I would use a dongle, but I sadly don't have the money to just "rebuy" another one at this point. |
