Is it allowed to build own smartphone based on PinePhone64 mainboard and its components?

For example, I would like to have a square display, something like the Pimeroni Square, with a real tactile keyboard.

The hardware is OS and all the files are on the wiki.

As for a keyboard there is one in the works, but not square.

The various keyboard threads contain links to some open source hardware keyboard options you could use or modify, and an I2C keyboard controller that already has a kernel driver.

The fact that I have to ask this question probably means this project is over my head, but how would you find a compatible LCD with a different aspect ratio?
