1.2b revision Pinephone mainboards, Discounts ? - bcnaz - 12-06-2020

The UBports and Brave Heart phone owners received a discount to upgrade their phones to the Latest 1.2b revision mainboard.

That brings up the Question,

Will the PMOS phone owners also be allowed a discount to upgrade from the 1.2a  to the 1.2b revision mainboard  ?

As far as I know, changes introduced by the 1.2b revision of PCBA boil down to removing a single SMT resistor, which prevents changes in the screen backlight level upon connecting unpowered USB devices.

Quite frankly, such a change doesn't warrant the board replacement, unless you specifically want to upgrade from a 16/2 GB board to a 32/3 GB board.

This is also the reason why I did not order a spare board for my 1.2a UBPorts unit after I received the following statement from Pine64 via social media:

Quote:The main issue with the v1.2rev1 board is that USB video output and OTG won't work without replacing some SMD components. If this isn't a concern for you, there's no major reason to upgrade. There are also video guides available for how to fix it yourself, if you're very handy with a soldering iron.

The above-stated issue is actually resolved in the PCBA v1.2a.

Sorry, my fault. The UBPorts edition had a v1.2 revision, not 1.2a.
