UT move to Ubuntu 20.04 - Concrete_panda - 11-09-2020

Hello everybody,

I have got a question about the move of Ubuntu Touch to Ubuntu 20.04.

If I understand this topic correctly, Ubuntu Touch is currently bases on Ubuntu 16.04 and shall be moved to Ubuntu 20.04 in order to have newer packages.

But what will that exactly mean for Ubuntu touch? Will we then be able to install normal Linux apps and run them on Ubuntu Touch without Libertine?

I think that the ability of running normal Linux apps in Ubuntu Touch would really be a thing. Is that gonna come?

Best,
Thomas

Better asked on the ubports forum, but yes, the goal is to move closer to mainline support for kernel, QT, Wayland, etc. They have been discussing what packaging format to use for the Pinephone, snaps seems to be the leading candidate.

You should be able to install full linux apps now with Manjaro Lomiri, but it's a bit undeveloped.

I would have liked to see them implement flatpaks.
