Is the PinePhone compatible with UHS-II or UHS-I Micro SD? - 5432h90asfd - 09-19-2020

Hi,

Just wondering is it worth buying a faster Micro SD card for a PinePhone Community Edition so it may run a bit faster?

The quicker cards tend to be USH-III then USH-II then USH-I:

If your device is only capable of dealing with USH-I devices then if you plug in a USH-II device then it will run at USH-I speeds.

Here it says that for the Rock64 it probably supports USH-I but not any higher:

The user manual says UHS1.

I can confirm the Samsung EVO Select 128GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 works perfectly in my postmarketOS Community Edition with the convergence package. Everything I've tried so far feels quite snappy for an SD card. I would recommend going no lower than 128GB, though, as the product description states:

Quote:¹4K UHD video support for 51GB, 256GB and 128GB cards.
I imagine "51GB" should be "512GB".

Note that Samsung Evo+ and Samsung Evo Plus are two different cards. The Evo+ is no longer manufactured, and the Evo Plus is not as good at random IOPS (around 60-75 % of the performance of the Evo+; see this comparison)

An alternative that looks good is "SanDisk Extreme 100MB/s UHS-I U3 V30 A1 32GB microSDHC" (SDSQXAF-032G-GN6MA), see this review.
