For any Canadians using Fido, Pine phone works! - kilopip - 09-07-2020

I got my phone about a week ago and didn't have time to play with it. Yesterday I installed UBports and was blown away with how far along this project has come. The only issue I had was not knowing that sim and micro sd slots are stacked (kept inserting the sim in sd slot). The phone detected my carrier correctly and connected to 3g data and voice. I was able to make a phone call and send SMS messages without much trouble. Thumbs up for this device, I don't remember the last time I was excited about my phone.

Telus also works in Canada Smile

it works on Shaw/Freedom also, but in Phosh (or at least in Manjaro) data doesn't work.

also, there's no MMS functionality on any distro that I'm aware of, but that's a global issue

Lol, just spent 8 hours of my time, 2 hours of a wonderful hell desk minions time as well as an hour of a Fido tech's time to realize that all I needed to do was set Network Connection from "2G, 3G, 4G preferred" to "2G, 3G" preferred.

YMMV

And an update, there is something weird going on with the "preferred" Network Mode settings. Selecting a Network Mode of "2G, 3G, 4G" and manually entering and selecting the APN "LTEMOBILE,APN" results in a 4G/LTE connection to Fido! Both 3G and LTE provide cellular data access.

YMMV
