Can't turn off phone..Hard shutdown? - JLane8 - 09-06-2020

Today I can't seem to turn off my Pinephone.  It has worked just fine the last two days, but for some reason now when I choose "Power Off" it doesn't do anything.  Tried holding down the side power button too.

Is there another way to do a hard shut down?

What OS? Hard shutdown using the power button is 8-10s

Try opening up terminal and executing:
Code:
sudo poweroff

That does unfortunately happen on almost all phones, just some more than others.

Years ago I had a new Iphone5, the first week I sometimes had to do a "hard shut down" 2 or 3 times a day.

My last Google phone maybe twice a week.

Yeah my Brave Heart and Convergent phones I have had to as well, occasionally.

Point being it is not just a Linux thing.  (about 10 seconds push on power button)

Something to note if you were thinking to remove the battery to turn the device off (probably not, but I thought I best mention this):
Apparently people are mentioning not to pull the battery out without powering down first, as the firmware on the modem can be corrupted by removing the battery.

I'm not sure if this is still an issue. I just remember it was an issue a couple of months ago.

It was mentioned here: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=10647&pid=73756#pid73756

Good to mention that to new forum members..!

To those members who have been here a while, " that is old news," perhaps that should
be posted somewhere in an introduction to using a Pine phone .?

PostmarketOS.  For some reason holding the power button wasn't working, but it is working now.
Sorry for the late reply!  Power outages here had me waiting awhile to charge her back up again.

Thanks this is a good reminder.  I try not to open up the back without the power off as the battery often slides right out.
