Received my PinePhone today. - tigerforce - 09-01-2020

Greetings from a PinePhone newbie. This is posted from my newly arrived PinePhone PmOS Convergence Edition. Yeah!

Just got it and played with it for a short while. PmOS installation went smoothly. The USB dongle was connected. I have not figured out how to get the HDMI out as it did not work out of the box for me. My Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse worked flawlessly. PD from the dongle works.

I just got mine today too and had a similar experience: keyboard and mouse working, HDMI monitor not.  I found on the pmOS Phosh wiki that issue #735 external HDMI is broken has been logged and is being looked into.  Aside from that, psyched to have a linux phone to play with.  Cheers.

Still waiting, mine is scheduled for September 3rd delivery.

I see some forum members are having troubles logging in with "incorrect Passphrase"

Hopefully those that have success will share the methods and correct Passphrase ?

Thanks

Any problems with connecting to your cell carrier ?  (GSM or CDMA carrier)
Are voice calls working, do you have ringtone when calling out ?
       Is cell data working ?
      Is sms/text working ?

Mine is scheduled to arrive in 2 days.

Got mine today also. Great looking device and was able to get through the initial setup and got her running. Trying to make a phone call I got nothing but weird noises from the earpeice / speaker and I cant confirm a connection or not, so I cant confirm the cell worked or not but I did have it connect to the Telus network. I also couldnt test sms as it would constantly ask me to configure xmpp and never let me do anything else.

I installed all the updates provided in "Software" and while browsing in Firefox the phone crashed and went to black screen.
Now it wont power up and no lights come on when its plugged in. I've tried pulling the battery, tried the reset button and tried holding power for various lengths of time.

So, after having it in my hands for about 4 hours it appears to be bricked.

Short of physical damage you can't really brick them. Download the latest jumpdrive image, flash to a sdcard and boot your phone, then you can directly re-flash the emmc chip via USB on your computer.

I got mine yesterday as well. Super excited to start tinkering with it. Same issue though, dock usb works but hdmi out does not. It also does not charge when power is plugged into the dock. Does it charge for the rest of you when plugged into the dock?

On a side note I did pop my sim card into it. I am on Verizon. calls worked both incoming and outgoing. the quality was not so great but my expectations were set appropriately. Should be fun watching things improve.

I haven't gotten the chance to really fiddle with it, but I am experiencing the same.  It looks as if the HDMI piece should be fixed soon according to the git link posted earlier.  I'm hoping this also fixes the charge as well.

RE: Received my PinePhone today. - Lousy Fisherman - 09-02-2020

I received mine Monday or Tuesday. Currently it is in a failed boot state Sad. However, before it entered that state I was able to:
- send and receive SMS
- make and receive phone calls
- use cellular data (4G)

All of the above were done on the Freedom/Shaw Cable network in Canada.

Issues
- irregular boot patterns, especially when there is a USB connection
- bluetooth keeps getting re-activated on boot, even after explicitly being shut down.
- sylpheed email client does not appear to be touchscreen aware.

Once I can get the OS stable and find an email client that is usable the phone will easily meet my needs since terminal and ssh clients are not an issue.

A huge vote of appreciation to the team for the quality of hardware, I am very impressed.

What is best email client for the pinephone at the moment?

Off to flash and test
