Want a fluid Firefox experience? Do this. - patrickjquinn - 07-28-2020

Hi all, i've recently, thanks to a guide posted on OMGUbuntu, changed my Firefox renderer over to the new Rust based, GPU bound one and it has literally been night and day in terms of performance. I'd highly recommend you do the same.

I thought that when FF switched to Quantum they switched to the Rust-based renderer. maybe only certain components were Rust based *shrug*

They included it but apparently didn't switch it on for certain platforms (Like Linux) by default.

I tried that - hard to quantify the speed change. But seems to increase the Firefox-esr crashes significantly - in my case just scrolling down a long page seems pretty certain to crash. So have reverted.

just enabled webrender. First impression is really good. Thanks for the tip!

I haven't noticed a significant difference since enabling it, but I also haven't noticed any extra crashes either. using current firefox on ArchARM

firefox has actually been the best browing experience I've had on mobian thus far. smoother and faster than epiphany by far, but doesn't have a mobile user-agent...that's something I am trying to figure out how to add as an extension, a user-agent switcher to get mobile versions of pages, but to no avail thus far.

I didn't notice any improvement when enabling this - does it need to be paired with forcing acceleration?

It appears so.
