About the camera - robopo - 01-11-2016

Some questions about the Pine camera:

- What is the status of the camera module, when will it be available?

- Is the camera connector perhaps the same as in Raspberry Pi 2 and if so can Raspberry Pis camera be used with Pine while waiting for the pine camera?

- can the camera video be synced with external pulse? This would make the pine camera extremely useful and the lack of this is perhaps the major deficiency in the RPi camera system.

Thanks

- The camera info loacted at http://wiki.pine64.org, the camera will be available immediately after Kickstarter campaign.

- The camera connector is different than RPi, the RPi camera cannot be use in Pine A64. RPi camare using serial bus type and Pine A64 using parallel bus type.

- I don't know much about synced with external pulse, if you have website that can reference to, I will check and get you an answer.

RE: About the camera - robopo - 01-11-2016

Any camera manufacture you may use will know about video synchronization to external master pulse.

For instance, for 3D video capture (stereo etc.) all the multiple cameras must take the video frames exactly at the same time. They do this by following an external electrical master pulse. Most industrial cameras are capable of doing this.

The camera module itself don't have the master pulse control, you may able to use GPIO pin to receive master pulse input if you interest in DIY.

RE: About the camera - robopo - 01-11-2016

Yes, but will the camera be able to act upon the the GPIO input (interrupt) signal? For instance Arducam has made a camera with FREX and STROBE signals for but Raspberry Pi firmware can not utilize these signals. You will win all the camera enthustiatics on your side if you make this possible. Please ask you camera manufacturer about this. Some talk on the RPi forum about this:

Such a same world, Arducam folks and us already communicate with us and they will look into such possibility :-)

After you have been talking with your camera manufacturer(s), is there now new any information about the camera and about the video synchronization to external master pulse issue?

Thanks

Hi guys,

I'm interested in using the camera module as weel. I'm gonna buy a Pine64 soon, can you point me to a good camera I can use?

I really need a sync signal too, though I could get by with an output instead of an input. I just need to flash a strobe while the "shutter" is open, so any signal that precedes the exposure consistently would do for me. Anybody know a chip that can do it?
