Power plug in boots Phone - StephanM - 07-15-2020

Hello everyone

I received the Pinephone last week and I am happy with it. There is however one thing that I would like to share with the community: When the Pinephone is off and I plugin the powersupply the phone boots immediately. It does so from eMMC and/or SD Card and with Ubuntu Touch as well as Mobian installed.
This is occasionally inconvenient, which is why I would like to know whether this is also the case with you and whether something can be done about it.

Thank you so much and best regards!

I'd postulate that is the intended behaviour, and is unlikely to change.

If you want to charge the phone while it is off, you should plug in the charger and then shut down - the phone will continue to charge.

That is normal

This is how the AXP803 PMIC behaves, it cannot be disabled.

Er, what? The first gen pinebook had the same issue, and resolved it by detecting that the power-on was due to external power connection during uboot, and shutting down the pinebook instead of continuing to boot. Can the same not be done here?

Here's another wish for removing the automatic boot on power plug in. IMO it would be more convenient to just have the (green?) led light up as a charging indicator as long as the power was plugged in, and let the user decide when to power on the phone.

As I understand it, some software needs to run in order to negotiate the charging speed. This is why Android phones will show a charging indicator (presumably booting into something smaller than Android proper), and why the Nintendo Switch also exhibits this behaviour.

Per my initial reply, you can power off the phone after it has booted, and it will continue to charge.
