This would be helpful in trying to understand what's going on here (no hurry, it won't be solved overnight anyway).

I have exactly the same issue with my BH PinePhone trying to run the latest Mobian.
The login screen works perfectly, but then it turns grey. I can then press the power button a couple of times and use the login screen again, which is correctly drawn on the screen, but then as soon as I unlock, it's a grey screen again.
I obviously haven't been able to setup a WiFi connection yet for it - does the USB connection allow for a SSH connection on a plain Mobian image? I cannot get to a point where I can install anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I replaced my screen recently and forgot to move the "divider" to the new one at first.
After swapping them the issue is gone.
