Replacement internal antenna? - azuntik - 06-16-2020

I've searched the forum and the store and have come up empty.

While replacing the keyboard on my PBP, I damaged the internal WiFi/BT antenna. It still sort of works, but I'd like to replace it. There's nothing available in the store and I can't find the anything about the part number that's on the antenna (SLK-NSD-2516E).

I've found replacement internal antennas on a few websites, but they tend to be really long, since they're intended to loop around the screen. The PBP antenna is relatively short (maybe 15 cm/6 in). Anyone know of a source to get a replacement? Or should I just buy a long one and try to find a place to put all the extra cable?

Thanks in advance!

This one looks like it could fit without too much excess cable: https://streacom.com/products/infi2-internal-wifi-antenna/ Apparently it's made to be tucked into a NUC case.

Thanks, @tophneal. That may work. Unfortunately, its frequency range is limited to the 2.4 GHz range. I don't use 5GHz WiFi much, but it's one of those things that I'd hate to reduce the functionality of my device. I've sent an email to Pine64 support. I'm hoping maybe they'll just sell me one directly, but we'll see. If not, I'll go with this.

Thanks for the quick response!

This one would probably work, and it's capable for 5ghz: https://www.lairdconnect.com/rf-antennas/wifi-antennas/embedded-antennas/nanoblade-series-internal-antenna

Thanks! You're obviously much better at finding these things than I am. I don't know why I didn't think to look at Mouser. They're not far from me and they have this in stock.

Would getting a longer antenna help with the reception range? I cannot not get wifi reception with my pinebook pro in a corner of my apartment but all my other wifi devices work.

Just curious if swapping for a longer antenna would help.

Probably not... It depends on the design. But generally speaking, longer antennas don't help unless the smaller one is too small, which it doesn't sound that way.
