Pinetab xfce and upgrades - cmcanulty - 06-12-2020

I ahve 2 questions about the pinetab before I order it.
1)is it possible to run xfce on it?
2)will it always be upgradable to new operating systems?

The reason I ask is I have a perfectly good DragonTouch 10" tablet but it is perpetually stuck on Android 4.4. I hate the idea of having a decent tablet but it is impossible to keep it upgraded to the newest OS. I also have an old Samsung tablet and an old ipad. They all do the same thing! So stupid to have hardware that works fine but not be able to upgrade and then lots of the new apps aren't available on the older systems. Thank you.

Yes, there are actually videos of it with XFCE in use on it. The OS updates are really dependent upon the distro maintainers, not Pine. However, much of PinePhone, PineTab, and the PBP have had support added to mainline kernel 5.7 release. As time goes on that support should get better.

OH man! xfce! sweet! It's been my main DE on all my machines for fifteen years now, so on a tablet would be sweet!

Oh, and for the record, the fact that it runs linux, and won't be forced obscalete (spelling) is my number one reason for ordering it the moment it became available.

I'm so tired of having devices that are unusable after a couple of years due to google abandoning them.
(looks at my nexus 7, nexus 9, pixel, and the five other phones I've got that are useless)
I'm typing this on a seven year old toshiba satellite that runs just fine under debian, (with XFCE, of course,) and I've got two over ten year old laptops that run just fine on the same, excepting batteries.

I can't wait!
