Likely, your /etc/passwd file has a format problem. See the discussion in the "Password Change" thread.

 Ah, that was the problem!  I just replaced rock with my new user name on the line that starts with my user name.

All, I've fixed the options for changing the full name for the user. The instructions originally used a different section in the user's GECOS field. (GECOS is where the user's real name, phone number, etc... are stored.) Here is the link;
