Any update on this ? @kxpunisher @rk7 I have a similar problem that I describe here: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=9042 (except Linux does not sees the phone when plugged).

Sadly no. I'm still having the same issue. Even without the battery and connected to usb, the phone won't boot.
Here are the messages I get when I connect the phone:

Feb  8 01:48:57 dan kernel: [ 8638.107243] usb 3-13: new full-speed USB device number 8 using xhci_hcd
Feb  8 01:48:57 dan kernel: [ 8638.259937] usb 3-13: New USB device found, idVendor=1f3a, idProduct=efe8, bcdDevice= 2.b3

Feb  8 01:48:57 dan mtp-probe: bus: 3, device: 8 was not an MTP device

And by the way, the first time I turned on the phone it did boot up, here are the corresponding messages:

I really don't know what happened since then, I just hope it's not a hardware failure. And I still agree with kxpunisher that this is not a battery issue.

Which OS are you trying to Boot? I noticed that Postmarket OS can boot up right away, but for Ubuntu Touch, I have to hold the power button for ~20 seconds before it powers on.

Most phones and Laptops I have purchased (New) in the past,  Recommend "charging fully before use"

      * I think the International shipping Laws state this type of battery cannot be charged above a certain amount for shipping safely *

Not saying this is "THE" problem,  but it could pose A problem when starting a new device  ?

I did turn my phone on by accident when I plugged in the charger,  so I scrolled through the screens, then turned it back off.

I am going to charge mine fully before I try it with an SD card....

I have been waiting since I ordered it back in November,  so a couple of hours is not much longer.

not certain : but seems I read somewhere . . . it does not 'see' the eMMC when plugged in and the battery is removed.... ?
(Maybe I have that wrong ? but, we are not real familiar with this new device)

I know what I did, I think. I wrote to EMMC when prompted, and it wasn't an image -- I guess it was an app. But I can't boot now (despite all sorts of shenanigans with charging, battery, no battery) and I get the same type of output with
Code:

I have noted this as well, with manjaro, ub on sd card.    A full 20 second hold to get it to boot.
