RE: Looking to commission a new Chromium build - tophneal - 01-14-2020 Cross posting here for the sake of gathering potential resources. Yesterday a Gentoo release was posted to the site: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=8765 Hopefully, with Gentoo running, and hopefully later fine-tuned, we may be able it use it as a better base for a new Chromium build, since Chrome OS is based on Gentoo. RE: Looking to commission a new Chromium build - brent.thierens - 01-14-2020 I have found that it seems that arc has been open sourced: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/platform2/+/master/arc The question however is, how do we start this development? I think it is helpful if we can for now just compile the code from @ayufan build, and if we know how we can integrate the official Rockchip kernel (which has complete support for all the features) with CrOS 77 and thus also with CrOS79/80. Once we can do that, it might be possible to have a go at this. I believe the ayufan CrOS already uses a fork of it, and it still lacks some of the kernel flags required to run ARC. I wonder if it might be better to use MrFixit2001's kernel fork instead. It seems to have much more of the necessary stuff for CrOS. RE: Looking to commission a new Chromium build - aaspectre - 01-14-2020 ill be adding to the pool soon as my paycheck comes around! i suggest another with bounty in the title to call attention RE: Looking to commission a new Chromium build - tedium - 01-14-2020 I’ll throw in. It’d be nice to have this. You won't have it withdrawn immediately. I'm going to move any money i pledge to my PayPal acct to avoid any issues. Are you suggesting another pool or post? RE: Looking to commission a new Chromium build - rossk - 01-14-2020 I'm sure I'm a little out of my depth, but I'd be interested in trying to get this hooked in to ChromiumOS auto-update mechanisms (to me, one of the most compelling features of the OS) https://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/chromiumos-design-docs/filesystem-autoupdate RE: Looking to commission a new Chromium build - tophneal - 01-14-2020 (01-14-2020, 04:58 PM)rossk Wrote: I'm sure I'm a little out of my depth, but I'd be interested in trying to get this hooked in to ChromiumOS auto-update mechanisms (to me, one of the most compelling features of the OS) https://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/chromiumos-design-docs/filesystem-autoupdate I ended up leaving that off, b/c from what I read about porting it to devices, it apparently requires having a dedicated build machine to distribute the updates. I thought it might not have been appealing to ask for future upkeep. RE: Looking to commission a new Chromium build - brent.thierens - 01-15-2020 If a dedicated machine is the only problem, maybe Pine64 can us help out there RE: Looking to commission a new Chromium build - tophneal - 01-15-2020 Possibly, but that's something we'd need to talk to the Pine team about. We should also consider that this build server would likely need to be x86_64. |
