The USB dock was a nice find! Maybe Pine64 would be interested to sell one in their shop?
It was very much possible on the n900 and the functionality was added by a third part package and then later the far superior CSSU. That all happened within the first year or so of its release. So much development was done those first 5 years and then it started to peter out.
I suspect all these things we're talking about in this thread are more software and kernel dependent.
