Here is a viewer for Linux: https://www.varicad.com/en/home/products/download/ RE: Additional batteries and external battery chargers - wibble - 12-06-2019 (11-30-2019, 03:14 PM)neilman Wrote:A phone battery is rarely just a battery, especially if it's user replacable. At a minimum it's likely to have a temperature sensor of some sort so it can be shut off if it gets too hot. It may have under/over voltage protection and overcurrent protection built in. It may include a battery state monitor chip to give more accurate battery info. It cold even contain something like they have on printer cartridges to try to stop people using 3rd party batteries, or to stop the battery charging unless it's in an approved device - IIRC Panasonic did this at one point with their camera batteries. The supplier's general point that the battery being the same physical size isn't the only thing you need to worry about is valid. The coulomb counter in the openmoko gta02 battery vs. the thermistor in the physically similar Nokia bl5c is a well documented example(11-30-2019, 02:50 PM)bcnaz Wrote:(11-21-2019, 03:27 PM)Luke Wrote:(11-21-2019, 10:55 AM)Freffyinkan Wrote:(10-24-2019, 04:34 PM)Luke Wrote: The battery used will be identical to the Samsung J7 3000mAh battery. Do you have any specific features in mind? STEP is a common interchange format for 3D CAD models, and will open in a variety of packages. I've just opened it in FreeCAD and HeeksCAD, both of which are cross platform. If you want to 3d print parts you'll need to use something like this anyway. One addition that would be useful is the position of the expansion connector pads. To be more specific, if anyone can export the shape of the back panel (as a flat plane,) with measurements (or at size) as a vector file, that would be great. Of course, including the cutout for the camera lens (and any others there may be) would be needed, too. I hope that made sense lol I know cases are inbound, but we discussed some skinning options for the phone in another post, and they maybe possible to apply to cases as well, depending on the difference between the body and case. RE: Additional batteries and external battery chargers - tahayassen - 12-06-2019 Here is a web app that can view stp files: https://www.emachineshop.com/free-online-step-file-viewer/ I would use a local CAD program if you're serious though. I'll probably ask a CAd friend if he can take a look at the file to get the shape. RE: Additional batteries and external battery chargers - wibble - 12-12-2019 Since things have gone a bit quiet I did a quick 2d conversion in FreeCAD. I think it's actual size, but wouldn't swear to it. Is that the sort of thing you're after? pinephone-back.pdf (Size: 109.54 KB / Downloads: 497) RE: Additional batteries and external battery chargers - wibble - 01-16-2020 (11-26-2019, 12:56 AM)tllim Wrote:(11-25-2019, 04:30 PM)hockleyj Wrote: I suspect once enough of the community, have the phone in hand, 3d printed battery adaptations will arise, either to adapt the contact pattern for other batteries, or even rear case adaptations to allow for larger batteries.... the possibilities are many. Has this changed at all for the Brave Heart release? The photo in the January community update shows some changes on the phone, most notably for this use case having pogo pins on the phone instead of bare pads, but it's not clear if the back case has been changed. It would be useful to have more details on this mechanical interface too. |
