After all, the Manjaro Plasma which comes with the PinePhone still does not come with a readymade SMS/MMS client. Instead to get texts, you have to install an application which is designed to do things with the modem, not specifically for SMS/MMS." - KNERD You can either switch to another OS (I personally think Ubuntu Touch is most ready), or you can install a utility app for the modem. While it is a utility, it can receice and send SMS, and you will get notification from it that a SMS has been received. I just don't recall the name of it now. Maybe someone else knows. RE: Is Manjaro Plasma stable for anyone? - LPIZ - 04-05-2022 Ubuntu Touch on the PPP? Where can I find the image? Hmmm...there seems to be no work on the PPP with Ubuntu Touch going on https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PinePhone_Pro_Software_Releases Seems the offerings for PPP are much less than the PP RE: Is Manjaro Plasma stable for anyone? - Tim_D - 04-06-2022 I followed your link to https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PinePhone_Pro_Software_Releases#NixOS and went down and saw "Mobiian", saw this Debian swirl and wondered if there was a KDE version or interface. I also noticed that Phosh used Wayland and thought I might try that too, especially considering the RESPECT I have for Purism who garnered my attention BOTH by creating an OS based on Debian AND by being the FIRST to make a Linux phone! Don't get me wrong, I do LOVE that PINE saw it was a good idea and ran with it! (04-05-2022, 04:52 PM)KNERD Wrote:(04-05-2022, 03:25 PM)LPIZ Wrote: Ubuntu Touch on the PPP? Where can I find the image? https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PinePhone_P...e_Releases I went here and scrolled down trying to find Ubuntu. I figured "WAY, WAY back when, Ubuntu sprouted from Debian"... And then I swear I saw a spiral I recognized next to the name Mobian! I don't know if they have a KDE version of it or not but I saw Phosh, which was developed by the Librem team. I bought a laptop from them. I REALLY dug the privacy respecting OS they built from Debian. Then they made a Linux phone, made Phosh for it, alas, I didn't have the means at THAT time, and despite ALL the pro's they were offering, I just couldn't afford it. Then came PINE. They saw the potential that Purism invested in their phone and ran with it too! Edit: I just saw my edit above, so I guess this is TECHNICALLY an Edit Edit! You are probably thinking of the regular PhonePhone with many more OS releases https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php?title=PinePhone_Software_Releases RE: Is Manjaro Plasma stable for anyone? - wibble - 04-06-2022 (04-06-2022, 12:47 AM)Tim_D Wrote: I also noticed that Phosh used Wayland and thought I might try that too, especially considering the RESPECT I have for Purism who garnered my attention BOTH by creating an OS based on Debian AND by being the FIRST to make a Linux phone! They missed first by over a decade, but did a good job resurrecting the idea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openmoko RE: Is Manjaro Plasma stable for anyone? - Tim_D - 04-20-2022 (04-06-2022, 10:15 AM)wibble Wrote:(04-06-2022, 12:47 AM)Tim_D Wrote: I also noticed that Phosh used Wayland and thought I might try that too, especially considering the RESPECT I have for Purism who garnered my attention BOTH by creating an OS based on Debian AND by being the FIRST to make a Linux phone! They missed first by over a decade, but did a good job resurrecting the idea. I've read this a couple of times and really can't come up with an excuse asides "blissful ignorance" (ignorance as in "lack of knowledge" not "lack by.choice".) Do I still need to hold onto my 2 year old Android phone JUST to get SMS? SMS should 'just work' on any distro which supports PinePhone by now. MMS is another story, although even that is becoming pretty well supprted by now (was not always the case). Do I still need to hold onto my 2 year old Android phone JUST to get SMS? Well, last I checked, the Manjaro with Plasma Mobile does not even come with a SMS application. Instead you have to install a modem app to even get any SMS received. RE: Is Manjaro Plasma stable for anyone? - TRS-80 - 04-30-2022 Wow, really? I am very surprised about that. But I have no experience with that distro/DE combo, so I suppose I have to take it at face value. Thanks for the correction. |
