I found this interesting product "DSD TECH SH-U09C5 USB to TTL UART Converter".
It uses an FTDI FT232RL with selectable 5V 3.3V 2.5V 1.8V TTL level. Maybe it can be slightly tweaked to give a 3V output.

3.3V is ideal, no modification needed!
