I like those large keys - a keyboard case doesn't have to strictly mirror the pinephone dimensions.

Of your design, I really like the 360 degrees "yoga style" hinges mechanism. I think it can solve the usability issue as a phone.

I made an animation using Blender . I didn't show  the  cable  connection  between  the  phone and the  keyboard.

It has the same problem as the original design, with that kind of keyboard you can no longer use the phone as a phone. As in a device you can hold comfortably against your ear to make a call.

Has anyone muck around with this with a nice case it could also connect to the pongo pings I'm not a very good programmer so ill have no idea how to make an I2c driver for it.[Image: 1f820800-90ab-4e48-aeb5-143599ad74f7.jpeg]

I would like a pinetop design like the above but slimmer. Phone calls are a low priority for me.

I was surprised to see no mention of this project :

It's only on a pi zero so the pinephone would leave us with quite a bit more space for keys and such.

I had actually had one of these M5Stack I2C keyboards onhand and tried interfacing the I2C pogo pins and all worked out great. Would be pretty simple to make the device driver as well - just havn't gotten around to it yet / want the case built out beforehand.

The keyboard itself is pretty much the perfect size to fit vertically on the pinephone (which I would prefer in anycase). I was thinking maybe doing something like a swivel / 180 degree mechanism so part of the screen is covered when using the keyboard and then rotate it back when not in use. Really using this thing would be more a matter of case design / 3D printing. Unfortunately, have lost my access to a 3D printer.

Also another potential is: https://www.tindie.com/products/arturo182/bb-q10-keyboard-pmod/ though these are a lot less readily available.
