RE: Mobile Carriers in the United States - delcolux - 08-03-2020 I've just tried Sprint Red Pocket with no success. I feel 90 years old as I have no idea what I'm doing. I've had the same verizon plan since like 2001 so... this is all new to me. I didn't know Sprint could discriminate certain phone brands and models. That seems unjust. It seems to me as long as the modem is supported it should not matter who made the computer it's attached to. RE: Mobile Carriers in the United States - bcnaz - 08-03-2020 Which edition of phone are you using ? Which operating system ? I guess you are trying to use Verizon ? There are forum members that are able to make Verizon work on their Pine phones... ( I have a personal grudge against Verizon, but that's not your problem ) I have decent success using ATT on my Brave Heart Edition phone. Currently I am running the August 03 Mobian nightly build on a sd card. Sprint & Verizon are CDMA, while ATT, T-Mobile, Mint Mobile are GSM (Almost) All will work, but GSM carriers seem to be slightly more successful at connecting RE: Mobile Carriers in the United States - klick - 08-04-2020 (08-03-2020, 03:03 PM)rocket2nfinity Wrote:Thank you for the help! Currently installing an update on Mobian now and seems to be taking a very long time, stuck at 23%. I am on the UBports development channel and currently running 120. Checked yesterday and the Morph browser still not working, it states sites certificates have expired and will not let me continue. Set the Mint Mobile SIM up on the UBports and could make and receive calls but no sound at all on my side or the receiver's side. Mint Mobile on Mobian, the calls work both incoming and outgoing and texting works incoming and outgoing.(08-03-2020, 12:03 PM)klick Wrote:I had to use sudo apt update && apt dist-upgrade to re-sync software app on Mobian. There's a change in dependencies that broke it. Switch to development channel for the latest fixes on ubports(08-01-2020, 08:55 PM)Lt. I am waiting on a Mint SIM to see if that will work. I am now running Mobian on an SD card and can make and receive phone calls through my T-Mobile SIM but texting is not working (which may or may not be because my number is tied to Apple iMessages).(08-01-2020, 07:36 PM)bcnaz Wrote:Initially I though the issue was the UB Touch OS, but it's Mint has horrible coverage where I live. I'd prefer staying with Touch OS as I'm running the latest version of Ubuntu on my ThinkPad and I'm very pleased with it.(08-01-2020, 05:53 PM)Lt. RE: Mobile Carriers in the United States - vap0rtranz - 11-17-2020 I'm on Cellcom, a non-MVNO who owns towers in Wisconsin, USA. Data works but voice/txt don't. APN re-config had to be stolen from a working phone (APN config: name="Cellcom", APN="VZWINTERNET"). My understanding is VoLTE must be programmed into the modem & accepted by the carrier. I attempted a bit of simple modem AT commands to force a generic handshake to get voice/txt but no-go. Ting (via T-Mobile) also worked for me (data+voice+sms) but their tower is 40miles away from home so ... I only got signal once in a blue moon on a cloudy night ![]() RE: Mobile Carriers in the United States - rocket2nfinity - 11-17-2020 How to enable VoLTE https://www.reddit.com/r/PINE64official/comments/huuw88/you_can_now_do_volte_on_the_pinephone/?utm_source=amp&utm_medium=&utm_content=comments_view_all RE: Mobile Carriers in the United States - KC9UDX - 11-17-2020 (11-17-2020, 09:03 AM)vap0rtranz Wrote: I'm on Cellcom, a non-MVNO who owns towers in Wisconsin, USA.But Cellcom is an MVNO. ![]() |
