How about this project? https://hackaday.io/project/165450-keyboard-featherwing
Simple keyboard. Easy integrated.

Not enough keys for real work. Maybe good for texting.

Also designed for specific hardware (not the pinephone), not opensource or created for this project so licensing will be an issue, doesn't conform to the direction given of "similar to n900," doesn't utilize the pogo pins which they wanted, and no stl files.

6*17 keys is too big or not?

I had a Vaio P. It wasn't exactly something that would fit on your pocket.
But the aspect ratio(2.08:1) is pretty close to the Pinephone's screen(18:9 or 2:1) sounds like a good place to start from, but the keys might end up being too small(I haven't checked).

Alternatively, I have a foldable keyboard(like the iClever BK03) which is slightly thicker and wider than the Pinephone(it'll block VOL and POWER buttons). But it might be possible to redesign it to fit. The case itself also appears unnecessarily thick and it may be possible to redesign the hinges to be more compact.
Although it may be costly, I've just had the idea of downsizing the bottom row and having it wrap around the edges so that it'll fit the Pinephone profile and possibly preventing you having to adapt to it too much. Maybe even use it additional keys(media, à la Nokia 5300) when folded.

However that would be outside the scope of this project since it's a compact full keyboard(typed with all fingers) instead of a small thumb board like the N900, and probably wouldn't be as durable as the N900's keyboard(but then again, Nokia).

Here is a picture of the Aigo P8880E UMPC which was released in 2009 in the Asian market. It runs Windows XP and Linux. It has Intel Atom Z500 800 MHz CPU, 512 MB RAM, 8 GB SSD, 4.8 inch 800x480 screen. Size is 152x80x21.6 mm and weight 320 g.

It has a slide keyboard which is better than the Nokia N900 keyboard IMHO. At least it has all the symbols and modifiers I need for Linux shell scripts, Vim and Emacs. Any comments?

Similar construction to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OQO
But stil 4 in vertical, why not 5 or 6 (similar in normal keyboard)? Sad

still many space in main enclosure.

I agree. Something like the keyboard of GPD Win might be good. It has 5 rows and common symbols don't need the Fn key. I just hate the Fn key being at the left most position. Should switch Ctrl and Fn.

5*18
if reducing a size key, some key put outside (edge the phone) and add one line it will be great. (In chocolate/Planck layout)

I hate Fn too, Fn+PgUp too.

@Luke didn't see any keyboard news in the Sep news release. Last update was 3 prototypes being examined, any updates?
