Kernel panics - solostian - 09-14-2021 Hi, For at least six months, my PBPro too often freezes up. From the power led blinking to amber, I get that this is a kernel panic. Do any of you know how to manage, if not prevent, these kernel panics? Cheers, Solostian RE: Kernel panics - jiyong - 09-14-2021 (09-14-2021, 08:36 AM)solostian Wrote: Hi, Which distro and version are you using? Which apps are you using? Do you run from the eMMC, or NVMe (or perhaps even SD)? RE: Kernel panics - solostian - 09-14-2021 (09-14-2021, 01:40 PM)jiyong Wrote: Which distro and version are you using? I'm using the stock Manjaro the unit came with. Since receiving it, I've added a NVMe drive to which I've relocated /home. I'm using it as a sidekick to my company-issued work laptop. When not reading my personal documentation or browsing Stack Overflow, it is mainly playing back music from Youtube. I'd say that 90% of kernel panics occur when Youtube is running. Do you also see the freezes when you boot from the eMMC or a micro SD card (without using the NVMe drive)? Sometimes the Pinebook Pro can't supply enough power to the NVMe drive. Some won't even start, but I have seen it happen that a NVMe drive seems to work at start, but fail later on because of power issues. RE: Kernel panics - User 11436 - 09-26-2021 I too have been getting the kernel panics. I have the NVMe adaptor fitted, but no SSD is installed. I've not been able to pinpoint what causes this. It appears to be random. I'm also using Manjaro ARM. RE: Kernel panics - maxjrh - 09-27-2021 One thing that I noticed: When I pacman -Syu and there is a new linux kernel, and then I do a warm reboot, then the system will hang at some point (usually happens while browsing the web). A cold reboot seems to fix the problem. RE: Kernel panics - solostian - 10-18-2021 I have installed Vivaldi to test a different browser. I only got a single panic attack while streaming from YouTube. I'll have to keep testing in order to reproduce the bug a few more times. I have no memory of any panic attack other than while YouTube streaming. The comment I've seen regarding the potential shortage of internal power when you have a secondary NVMe drive is interesting. Isn't YouTube caching its streams in /home ? Cheers, Solostian |
