Hi,

Anyone interested in this idea? I've reached out to the guy that runs http://rastrack.co.uk to see if he would be interested in doing it, or providing his code base for me to kick it off for the Pine.... We'll see what he say's he may tell me to 'Go forth and multiply' Smile

Any way, your thoughts please.

If not we can go our own way, I'm not the best LAMP programmer in the world, but I've build enough sites to get something working Smile, if we have a github repo then a few of us to work it out...
That would be really awesome too Smile
Bit of a hard place for me to be with it.

Realistically I have nothing wrong with the concept being used with preferably a "Inspired by Rastrack" backlink or something.

Rastrack itself isn't in the best shape. The current version I wrote when I was about 16 (I'm 20 next month) and its pretty much just sitting there now. 110K data points on a google map is slow. So as for me open sourcing the code that's a no no. (I also don't know if there's exploits in it which then I'd have to maintain and don't really have the time).

So the options are either I just fork rastrack, setup with a new DB and domain and host it the same way. Or a new re-built tracker site system gets made and I can help input the flow design of steps it goes through and a little bit of coding when I'm free (Likely next month)

Thanks for getting back to us Ryanteck, You know the code better than anyone else, so if you think a re-build is the best option, then that would be they way to go... Have a think and let us know..., Your offer of support is more than appreciated.
I talked to lenny.raposo-pine64.pro about hosting the tracker as part of http://www.pine64.pro as it seams a bit pointless setting up something special and different, and he's cool with the idea, subject to the design details.
very cool Idea IMO Smile
Couple of quick couple question that I've thought about....

1. Are we tracking Pine64 users or Pine64 devices? I ask as if it devices then we need some way to identify them as we'll have multiple devices for users. Serial number being the of obvious choice.

2. At what resolution do we wish to track the location. It I've been playing with google maps and the geo-locate stuff and it can resolve my full address, but it occurred to me people may not want to display their exact addresses in the tracker. We could just go down to town?
