When typing in a console/terminal I do something that causes the arrow keys in the ABC mode to disappear. Crucial for repeating misspelled commands. What am I doing wrong?
nothing. I see the same thing happen. Press the globe looking icon next to the 123 icon, pick Terminal, and the arrow keys are avaliable again. but you probably figured that out by now
