Looks good. Can I ask how loud it is with the fan running? Do you hear it or is it small enough that you don't notice?

The fan is a standard 5v 140ma brushless motor with horizontal curved blades, which can move up to five cubic feet per minute !

Yes, it is noisy.  Everything from a white noise whirrrr to a very high pitched tone. That is why it is necessary to drive the motor via PWM and a driver transistor (PN2222, 2N2222).  Other transistors will work too.

I have posted plans my driver circuit and python soft pwm codes on this forum. I will be updating those tonight (changes to the codes, and pics for how to mount the PN2222 in-line (no circuit boards).

With the motor speed controller circuit the fan is whisper quiet , yet still moves enough air to keep things efficiently cool.
- thank you for the reply.
- I look forward to that write up.
I've ordered the "tall" one from C4 labs...  Got two Pine 2GB's - but one is going to live in a Lego case I made which also houses the 7" LCD - probably won't be used till (if?) there's a debian/Linux build that supports the 7" LCD...

Got the tall one so I can house a battery inside it...   Might convert a 3 post Samsung battery...
The motor speed controller writeup is at this link.
I'd love to see one that incorporates the fan and the LCD screen.

Well, that's interesting you should mention that, actually.

... because the 7" LCD display only works with Android, and with Android the fan is not necessary;  just a heatsink is all you need there.  The reason is that Android cuts back on the cores running, and also slows down the clock... and it runs very cool.  Even sealed up in my cb&dt playbox the GPU is always in the low 40(s) C
I sent C4 labs my battery, LCD and Pine again just yesterday to see if Dustin can develop an enclosure for the LCD. Keep the fingers crossed Smile

Mine has been running really hot when I'm using the LCD and android. I haven't invested in heat sinks yet though. Do you have any recommendations?
