Full Version: Why no AndroidTV Image

I bought the Pine 64 with 2GB, the remote, and the keyboard. I expected the company to provide a REAL AndroidTV image for us to use. They made all this discussion about 4K.  Why is there no real AndroidTV image?

Is this hard?

That is not a 'real' android TV img. However, it does fill a gap in the current image line-up, and offers an androidTV-LIKE experience. I know of another media-focused project in the works - should see the light of day in the coming weeks. Its still very early days Wink
That is my reason for asking. Why did they offer a REMOTE and KEYBOARD if not REAL AndroidTV image?

Is this hard?  Glad to see some are trying to bridge the gap.  My device got delivered yesterday, but I am out of town.
I will be working on this when when I get mine delivered. Should be fun. This is my primary reason for getting the device too so I will be spending alot of time on this.
You asked if it's hard/I'm sure it's not easy. Everything takes time testing tweaks alot of the time the app/system check sigs, build props, root checks, require libs and dependencies that may not be in the aosp build. Often requires sometime dex debugging/lib debugging/logcat.
It all depends on how secure google wanted to make. the platform.

Also Luke, just wanted to say its awesome you got a IRC channel up. Ty. Ill be using it after I can get to some testing.

Correct. I am not a dev, so I do not speak from experience, but from seeing Lenny and others work I sure as heck wouldn't say that getting a new working image out the door is an easy task. It all takes time.

We'll be glad to have you join on IRC Raselin - there are now ~50 regulars and plenty of people pop by to ask for help and troubleshooting. Make sure to come by for the trivia challenge on the 5th - will be fun Wink
