Debian on Pinebook Pro - u974615 - 02-15-2024

What is the state of USB Type C DiplayPort out on Debian 12 for the Pinebook Pro?  It seems like all the required kernel modules are loading, but it doesn't work.  Is this a Debian 12 kernel issue or a U-Boot Issue?

RE: Debian on Pinebook Pro - diederik - 03-13-2024

Do you have `firmware-misc-nonfree` installed?

RE: Debian on Pinebook Pro - u974615 - 03-20-2024

Yes.
firmware-misc-nonfree is already the newest version (20230210-5).

If you run `dmidecode`, does it tell you what u-boot version you're using?
Can you try a Stable-backports kernel and see if that changes/improves the situation (currently version 6.6.13-1~bpo12+1) ?

RE: Debian on Pinebook Pro - u974615 - 03-22-2024

# dmidecode 3.4
# No SMBIOS nor DMI entry point found, sorry

$ uname -r
Linux PinebookPro 6.1.0-18-arm64 #1 SMP Debian 6.1.76-1 ( 2024-02-01) aarch64 GNU/Linux

Is the correct backport repo "http://deb.debian.org/debian bookworm-backports main contrib non-free non-free-firmware" ?

"typec_displayport" is the correct Linux kernel module to have loaded?

Bummer

Quote:$ uname -r
Linux PinebookPro 6.1.0-18-arm #1 SMP Debian 6.1.76-1 ( 2024-02-01) aarch64 GNU/Linux

Are you sure that isn't 6.1.0-18-arm64? Note the arm64 part.

No, that's the normal repo. For backports see here: https://backports.debian.org/Instructions/

I think so, but I don't know.

USB Type C Alternate Mode DisplayPort out on the PineBook Pro doesn't even work with the PINE64 Dock.

I gather that USB Type C Alternate Mode Displayport out is no longer supported in Debian Workstation 12 aarch64, at least for the PineBook Pro.

I imagine the backstory as to why it was demonstrated to work and why it doesn't now would be intriguing. Of course the demos I saw were for Manjaro and not Debian and wasn't using Tow-Boot.

I can see that this is a difficult feature to do. Google can't even get it to work on the Pixel Phone and Pixel Tablet. Whereas Samsung Galaxy phones have had it for years.
