wiping u-boot off sd card - shulamy - 07-17-2022

i installed tow-boot  on pinephone beta edition but  it dosn't work

 so i found this

Quote:Q: I’ve installed Tow-Boot on my original PinePhone but it’s not working as described. A: The original PinePhone will always boot any u-boot on the SD card first. If you have an older Mobian image or another OS image on the SD card this may happen. Removing the SD card or wiping u-boot off it should cause Tow-Boot to work.

but i don't find how to do it or where to find image without u-boot

I described how I think it should work in the post below. Note that it's based on my reading of documentation linked further up the thread, and I haven't actually tried it.

Quote:Since Danctnix (arch) switched to a gpt partition table from mbr in May of 2022 it installs u-boot at an offset of 128k instead of 8k, which means this command must be used instead

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/[DEVICE] bs=32k seek=4 count=1

maybe that's why

i'll try this command when i get to linux computer

now tow-boot is booting  and the led turns aqua for a second

the archlinux from sd start to boot but fails and manjaro boot from emmc

i tried an older image of arch but it doesn't boot as well

i think now that those instractions wipe too much

because it's for using the sd as storage and not for booting

i read somewhere that u-boot has bootloader part and firmware part

and i think this dd command wipe both
