Looking for a stable Crypto Messenger - NotinRlyCrs - 11-15-2020

Hello Guys,

right now im thinking about buying a Pinephone for only one special usecase:
Secure Text messaging with end to end encryption. I would prefer a decentral system (like briar) with selfdestructing messages.

Is there any stable OS out there for pinephone with an application for my requirement?

Greez

Signal should work for you if you're using Mobian, UBPorts, or some other distro based on Debian. Axolotl is an alternative client and there is a discussion about it here.

I don't think there's a reason briar-gtk wouldn't be able to work on mobian, but you'd need to compile it yourself as their current packages for the briar-headless dependency are amd64 only. They're working on getting it included in debian, at which point it would become available for mobian as I understand it, but it's not there yet. I suppose you could ask them to compile aarch64 packages.
