I have several Pine 1 boards. In the process of setting Static IP addresses on one of the Pine 1 boards I have managed to brick it. I have setup two other Pine 1 boards successfully so they book and I can ssh into them. But in the third Pine 1 I have gotten it into a condition where the board comes up running Ubuntu using Ambian. At boot a page of output appears in the HDMI console and then the screen goes black and ultimately shows a "No Signal" message. I tried re-flashing the sd card I am booting from but had the same results. Is there a way to return the board to the factory condition? Thanks for any help.

Hi Members,

I landed finally (and let me add "late") to a brand new Pine A64+ (I know, discontinued).
I'm in trouble installing a GUI Linux OS.
I come from Windows experience, so I need to "flash" an SD card with a pretty operating OS image, doesn't matter which one, I need a GUI one to install Python (it should be natively available), MySql (or MariaDB).
It seems no OS images work at all. Only Arch Linux seems to be operative but in such a way it breaks.
Could someone help me, please?

I am desperately trying to make an otherwise perfectly functional A64+ usable in my application, but I've been sparring with the "soft lockup" issue for ages. I see that this got some nontrivial attention in 2016/2017, but I have not seen any resolution was reached after scouring the web some years later. I hate to throw this A64+ out, so I was going to reach out to everyone here and see of this was ever properly understood.
What precedes the lockup varies, fixating on the cfg80211 turned out to be a red herring, as I describe further below.

Through my reading for hours on end, I've noted that people have blamed everything under the sun for this bug, such as:

cfg80211 module loading (even when module is physically unplugged, blacklisted via modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and confirmed not loading, still have the issue)

Power cleanliness (powering at 5.1V through euler bus using a calibrated Agilent lab supply worth a good deal more than my car, verified with Tek 744A 500MHz scope. Added substantial bypass and tank capacitance (200uF sub-30mOhm ESR) to no avail)

HDMI (unplugged, plugged, forced resolution using the "optargs=disp.screen0_output_mode=720p60", nothing consistently increases or decreases the liklihood)

SD cards (I have 4 different brands/vintages/speeds and they all do this, fresh installs for each)

Ethernet (plugged, unplugged, DHCP on, DHCP off, happens randomly regardless)

Change operating systems (I have not attempted other OS's, because Im at the end of my patience with this device, but other say they switch aht the problem seemed to follow)

Was this ever understood/eliminated?
I saw that pkfpeters has a kernel that he described as disabling kernel pre-emption to correct the issue, but I cannot find this kernel available for download. That being said, the theme seems to be that people have an idea of what it may be, and expend tremendous effort trying to prove themselves right, when data quickly emerges suggesting otherwise. Has the Pine64 team got any comments on this issue? Anything that has been implemented or at least researched to address this issue?

Thank you for any support you can offer. I hate to waste a good board, but the time I've expended trying to get this to work is bordering on ridiculous for the cost of the hardware.

Best Regards,

Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice with regards to controlling a relay from a web page.

I am familiar with using the RPi.GPIO to control the actual relay(s) on the pine64.

What I am confused about it how to have the web page button onClick event send the python code to the pine64.
Does html have an event or method "onClick" or is this only available using javascript?

Would I create a html (PHP) webpage add a button, then have a cgi script run the python RPi.GPIO code?

I'm trying to come up with the right strategy of how to go about this so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hey all,
I have a Pine64 from the kickstarter, I hope I am posting this in the right forum, I don't recall if it was considered a (+) version or not. I am trying to find an image that works with the LCD display. I much prefer a Ubuntu version, but I am not sure if there is one? I tried OpenSuse, but the OS simply doesn't seem to work. It won't update or install anything as it seems the site it is trying to connect to doesn't work anymore. I am hoping someone might be able to point me toward a Ubuntu (or really any distro that works, as I can't find *any*) image that works with the LCD panel.
Thanks!

I can mount it manually fine off the CLI but if I add it to /etc/fstab it hangs the entire system when booting. I've got it on fstab as
Am I missing something in the options? Is it just checking something on boot and taking a long time? (it's a 2TB drive)

Given that it works if I mount it manually, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here

EDIT: setting pass to 0 and changing defaults to rw,auto,user,gid=1000,uid=1000 seems to have fixed it. I'm not 100% sure but I suspect it may have been the pass going to 0 that did it (as noted earlier in my original post, it's a 2TB USB3.0 drive and checking that filesystem would certainly have taken a long time). This means I have to be more hands-on about checking and maintaining the file system, but at least it now boots and mounts it correctly.

My inexperience with Linux is the main problem. I'm used to solving my own technical problems, especially now that we have the Internet! With Linux, though, I keep running into walls that I have trouble overcoming.

I suspect, though, that some of my frustrations in installing wifi dongles on an A64+ may be due to bugs with software, whether Longsleep's image or other software I've installed.

Here are my steps, and the results. I'll mention installing VNC because that was a step I took. I'm still hopeful that I can get that going, but I'm open to all suggestions:

1. Balena Etcher flash of xubuntu-xenial-mate-20161215-longsleep-pine64-8GB.img.gz onto 64gb micro SD (since I ran out of room with previous attempt using 32GB) -- Result great!

2. Sudo resize_rootfs.sh

3. Sudo apt-get update a couple times. Plus sudo apt-get upgrade and sudo apt autoremove a couple times.

4. Sudo apt-get install vnc4server -- Result: never did get it working as I have on Rasp Pi 3B+

5. Sudo apt-get install nano build-essential linux-headers-generic git

6. Mkdir ~/RTL8188EU

7. cd to above

8. git clone git://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu
Result:
434 objects enumerated
434 of 434 objects counted
310 of 310 objects compressed
received 100% (12615/12615)
resolved deltas 100% (9368/9368)
connectivity checked

9. cd to ~/RTL8188EU/rtl8188eu

10. make all
Result:
make ARCH=arm64 CROSS_COMPILE= -C /lib/modules/3.10.104/build M=/home/ubun/RTL8188EU/rtl8188eu modules
make[1]: *** /lib/modules/3.10.104/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
Makefile:151: recipe for target 'modules' failed
make: *** [modules] Error 2

11. Tried make instead of make all. Same result.

12. Looked in /lib/modules/ to confirm that there's a 3.10.104 folder.

13. Looked in /lib/modules/3.10.104 folder to find shortcut called "build". So it's /lib/modules/3.10.104/build. Looked at properties. The target is: /home/hxwong/build-pine64-image/linux-pine64
This will fail, right? If anything tries to build/make, whatever, it'll look for hxwong instead of ubun or whatever you have.

What did I miss? What should I do (or not have done)?
